What to look for in a freelancer

Style
Even an adaptable writer isn't going to be good at writing everything. Some writers are more technical, while other writers excel at humor. Be sure to find a writer with the right style.

Portfolio
A freelancer with any kind of experience should have a solid portfolio. Examine samples thoroughly.

References
Unless the freelancer is just starting out, he should be able to provide names of happy clients he has worked with in the past.

Resume
Beware of the freelancer who charges too little for his work. Low rates are usually the mark of inexperienced freelancers.

Information design
It's not enough for a document or a website to just look good. I'm committed to designing tools that help users to find what they need, understand what they find, and most importantly; I design tools that help people to use information to achieve their goals. This process involves five essential steps. I will help you to:
  1. Analyze your communications problems or weaknesses
  2. Set goals that address your communications problems or weaknesses
  3. Develop a communications plan that identifies what tools will best meet your communications goals
  4. Create communications pieces identified in the communications plan (ie. brochures, press releases, collateral)
  5. Evaluate effectiveness
